The defense ministers of France, Germany, Italy, Poland and the United Kingdom (E5) at a meeting in Paris on October 26 called Russia the main long-term security threat to the Euro-Atlantic region. U5 defense chiefs linked the threat to war against Ukraine, violations of NATO airspace, sabotage and hybrid attacks in Europe. Defense ministers stressed the need to strengthen NATO's defenses, counter Russia's shadow fleet and expressed their belief that Europe must take greater responsibility for its own security while maintaining close cooperation with the US and other allies. They also reaffirmed their commitment to continued political, military and financial support to Ukraine.
