** Head of the Office for Arab and Islamic Relations in the Hamas movement, Dr. Bassem Naim:** We confirm that the plan to dissolve UNRA goes directly to the heart of the Palestinian issue. Whereas what is leaking about the intentions of the Commissioner General and Christine Saunders to fire more than 7,000 workers in the West Bank and Gaza under the pretext of the financial crisis, is an extremely dangerous matter and cannot be tolerated. We clearly see that these measures are not the result of an innocent financial deficit, but rather a tool that was implemented with American support for the dissolution of UNRA in order to end the existence of the most important living political and legal witness to the rights of our refugees, first and foremost the right of return. We emphasize that the issue of refugees, with the presence of approximately 7 million Palestinians in the diaspora and millions within historical Palestine, will remain the greatest challenge facing the colonial project, no matter how much they try to circumvent it.
We make it clear to everyone that these trends cannot be separated from the comprehensive plan that directs the country through the settlement, the holy places by Judaizing Al-Aqsa Mosque, and the refugees by demolishing camps in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip in order to eliminate all the elements and constants of our goal. We call for the united and integrated efforts of all international efforts, factional and popular forces, to stand together and thwart this dangerous plan, and to act to protect the rights of refugees internationally guaranteed by UN resolutions, especially Resolution 194. We renew our commitment that the refugee issue is not only a humanitarian issue, but a political issue and an established historical and legal right that is not subject to statute of limitations, and no attempt to erase or eliminate it will succeed.
