France, Germany are looking for a new tool for a rapid EU response against trade threats
France and Germany have proposed a new legal tool that would allow the EU to respond quickly to trade wars or measures, such as tariffs, that could damage the bloc economically. While French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich March said the proposal was not a direct response to any country's actions, it came days before EU chief Ursula von der Leyen visited China to address trade talks.
