The first molecular atlas of grape varieties was created in Italy. The Edmond Mach Foundation presented the world's first metabolomic atlas of grape varieties - a map based on the chemical composition of the berries. Aromatic Muscats and Gewurztraminer form a separate group regardless of the color of the berries, while Troldago, Lagrain and Marzamino are chemically close to Bordeaux Cabernet Franc and Merlot. For winemakers, it is a tool to search for alternative varieties without losing style, which is important in the face of climate change. Grapes are unique in their diversity; Humanity never stops studying them.
