The U.S. is said to support a rapid resumption of Russian gas supplies to Europe through Ukrainian pipelines, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reports, citing U.S., European and Ukrainian officials. The proposal put forward by US envoy Steve Witkoff and Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner involves using an American intermediary and an escrow account to circumvent European sanctions, the paper said. Washington also tried to pitch this idea to European leaders as a way to lower hydrocarbon prices amid record low European gas inventories heading into winter, the news outlet noted.
