Eckhart Tolle - On how to fill yourself with fresh ideas

[Spoiler - pay attention to the body]

New thoughts appear very rarely. When only the overactive mind rules, the same patterns circulate in the consciousness over and over. The moment you begin to feel the inner body (and for some, this part of your attention must shift from the head to the body), you shift attention away from the thinking process.

This does not mean a complete cessation of thoughts, but their intensity decreases and they slow down. There may even be small gaps between thoughts.

Thinking slows down because part of the attention is now in the energy field of life, which most people do not feel โ€“ they are so absorbed in thoughts that they forget the very sense of life. When the mind calms down, gaps between thoughts arise, and then truly new thoughts appear โ€“ insights, a fresh look at things, sudden realizations.

They awaken only when the mind calms down โ€“ but not through violent attempts ("I must calm the mind"), but through a natural, effortless redirection of attention.

You simply pay attention - and in the space created, thinking becomes more vibrant, more original, more productive. Truly valuable ideas are born.
