A municipality or an economic enterprise? | Amani: The development of public transport and the maintenance of the city is the responsibility of the Municipality of Tehran, not housing construction! Nasser Amani, a member of the Islamic Council of Tehran, in an interview with Aktez News: The city administration's entry into livelihood and economic programs, such as price stabilization, is done without the approval of the city council and outside of the legal obligations. These areas of responsibility are essentially the responsibility of the government, and the allocation of financial resources for them requires going through legal channels. Actions such as building housing and providing health services make the municipality a large economic enterprise. This approach will result in the neglect of the essential and main duties of urban management such as urban administration, cleanliness, green spaces and traffic management. Despite allocating half of the municipality's budget to the field of public transportation, the set goals were not achieved. The number of buses is far below the target of 7,500 vehicles, and the renewal of worn-out taxis is far behind schedule. Maintenance and cleaning of the city after years still lacks a comprehensive and sustainable plan. Frequent management changes prevented the plans from continuing and Tehran's green space was also severely damaged by drought and pests by cutting down thousands of old trees. Focusing on joint projects with the government without legal support and approved credits ignores the real demands of the citizens. Instead of going into unrelated areas, the city administration should focus its energy and resources on solving the main problems and priorities of the capital city.
