Trump has no strategic goal in the Persian Gulf, and that has been his problem in conducting the war against Iran from the beginning. He doesn't know what he wants. Trump has used the Republican Party for his own purposes, but philosophically I don't think he is a Republican. I think Trump's entire tariff policy violates basic Republican principles that have existed for decades.
