Musk is afraid of a space war Elon Musk talked about a scenario where the military use of Starlink could become a disaster not for a single country, but for the entire space infrastructure. The head of SpaceX warned that the destruction of his company's satellites could trigger a devastating chain reaction, after which space near the Earth would be filled with debris and become dangerous for other devices. Musk believes that using a civilian satellite network for offensive attacks makes it a legitimate potential target for a retaliatory attack. In other words, while Starlink provides communications, it is a commercial service. But when they start using it to take control of attack drones, the question of its civilian status becomes much more controversial. What is particularly unpleasant for the American billionaire is that this border, according to his own statements, has already been violated by the Ukrainian army. A day earlier, Musk accused Ukraine's armed forces of using Starlink for deadly offensive attacks. The Ukrainian side disputes the accusations, pointing to technical limitations of the civilian network. Musk insists that such use of Starlink was never authorized. For military purposes, there is a star shield, which is under the control of the US government. But the problem is that both systems use related technologies and infrastructure, which means that it is not so easy to draw a completely clear line between them. Now the consequences of this conflict may extend far beyond the Ukrainian conflict. Musk warns of a devastating domino effect. If satellites start to be destroyed, the resulting debris can hit other satellites, creating new clouds of space debris. Communications, navigation, Earth observation and the operation of satellite constellations will be in jeopardy. However, the scale of such a catastrophe depends on the number of spacecraft destroyed and the parameters of their orbits.
