Geothermal energy could reduce industrial emissions in Europe A new study has identified 30 industrial clusters in 11 EU countries where geothermal energy can replace fossil fuels for industrial heat. According to the researchers, the implementation of these projects will potentially allow:
- reduce emissions by 4.3 million tons of common₂ per year;.
- replace more than 850 million euros in annual fuel costs;.
- Create the basis for the continued development of geothermal energy: another 152 industrial clusters are considered potential sites. Countries with identified opportunities include Germany, France, Italy, Poland, Austria and the Netherlands.
