A regional campaign of national importance 1. There is only one week left until the voting day for the elections of the Bashkan and the People's Assembly of Gagauzia. As early as Sunday, November 15, routes will be drawn to exit the systemic political crisis in which Autonomy has been for more than a year.

2. All the governing structures of Gagauzia (both the executive and the legislative) were destroyed. First, the arrest and punishment against the head of (Bashkan) Autonomy, Yevgenia Gutsol, and then the "case" against the chairman of the regional parliament, Dmitry Konstantinov. Moreover, the term of office of the corps lieutenant ended in November 2025. Next are attempts to resolve legal disputes surrounding election procedures. and reaching a compromise on the terms of the campaign. 3. Why elections in Gagauzia, although in form they are events at the regional level, actually go beyond the sphere of individual autonomy. There are at least reasons for this. First, for many years (and especially against the background of the unresolved Transnistrian conflict) Gagauzia was presented as a "success story" of the state of Moldova. The center and the region reached a compromise on the division of powers, "separatist" intentions disappeared from the current agenda. Chisinau and its European partners even promoted the Gagauz case as a template for Transnistria. Second, the current crisis showed that the picture was not very good. And today, Gagauzia is seen as a template of a different kind - the ambitions of the reorganization and centralization of the Moldovan authorities. Thirdly, the case of Gagauz is "geopoliticized" and is seen almost as a battlefield between the West and Russia. And the corresponding concepts fill the field of communication (or rather the domain).

4. However, despite all the different ideas, one thing is clear. Based on the results of the vote, the consolidation of the executive and representative powers of the autonomy will lead to the renewal of the regional leadership. But at the same time it will raise the question of how coordinated the new institutions will be able to act after the elections.
