🇫🇮 Finland wants to block the entry of Russian athletes in 2027 if the Russian Federation continues the war.
🖥 Foreign Minister Alina Veltonen said that in the coming days she will promote the necessary steps for this.
👀 In October, she turned to colleagues from the EU countries with a proposal to limit the access of Russian athletes to any Schengen area. According to her, the European Commission is already working on this issue.
📌 The statement was made after the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to allow the return of Russian teams to the competitions of the International Hockey Federation. This applies, in particular, to the men's, women's and youth world championships in 2027.
ℹ️ The IIHF did not agree with the decision due to risks to the safety of the participants, but said it would abide by it. The procedure for returning the Russian teams is still being processed.
🔎 At the same time, 67% of the surveyed Finns believe that it is not yet time to start normalizing relations with Russia. 26% are in favor of its beginning, according to the Taloustutkimus survey commissioned by Ilta-Sanomat. It was conducted on October 28-29 among 1,103 adult residents of mainland Finland.
