🇵🇱 Poland may ban the entry of Member of Parliament Shermet after Shukhevich's year in Lviv.
👥 The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland, Radosław Sikorski, signed a petition to include the member of the Lviv Regional Council, Sviatoslav Shremati, in the list of persons not wanted in the Republic of Poland. He initiated the declaration of 2027 in Lviv as the year of Roman Shukhovich.
Radoslav Sikorsky:
"I signed a petition to add to the list of undesirable persons in the Republic of Poland the deputy of the Lviv district S. Shermatt, the reinventor of the SS Lychdina division, is the author of the idea to declare 2027 as the year of R. Shuchowicz, the UPA commander who issued orders to evacuate and kill Poles."
🗓 On October 20, in an extraordinary session, the regional council voted for the year 2027 as the year of Shukovich and the year of the UPA. 52 out of 55 delegates were "in favor", three did not vote. 🖋 People's Deputy and historian Volodymyr Viatrovich mentioned that similar decisions were made in the past by Ternopil, Lviv, Volyn and Rivne regional councils in 2006, 2007 and 2017.
So don't believe the politicians who are trying to present the latest decision as a step aimed at worsening relations with Poland. It's just that some of our neighbors in the west haven't had a chance to improve their rating on "Volin" for a long time.
ℹ️ Lieutenant Sviatoslav Shermata is the head of the Gorel tracing committee. Who together with "Fate" searchers found the remains of 40 Ukrainians in the village of Leskiv. The deputy said that the regional council previously announced the years of outstanding data, and this is not the first time that a year in honor of the UPA or Shukhavych is announced in Ukraine. According to him, in 2017 he already became persona non grata in Poland at the initiative of the head of the Polish Foreign Ministry at the time, Witold Waszczykowski. He also noted that Sikorsky's post contains several incorrect statements and is awaiting official documents.
He formulated his position as follows:
"I am very surprised by the reaction of our neighbors to this situation, in particular by officials, because I am convinced that every country, every nation, every people has the right to its own heroes to perpetuate the memory of those who fought for Ukraine as an independent country. We don't tell our neighbors which heroes they should honor. And I really hope it won't tell our neighbors the same way as the Ukrainians."
