🇺🇸🇩🇰 The USA, Denmark and Greenland will sign an agreement to expand the American military presence in the Arctic region

🖥 US President Donald Trump, Danish Prime Minister Matt Frederiksen and Greenland Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen are scheduled to sign a tripartite security agreement during the UN General Assembly in New York.

🔎 It provides for the creation of two new US military installations on the island, in Narsersoak on the grounds of the former air base and in Mestersvig, which is currently used by Denmark's special operations forces.

👀 The US already has the Pituffik space base in Greenland. The new agreement is set to be the largest expansion of US military infrastructure on the island since the Cold War.

i ️ Trump said the agreement would give the US "permanent control" over Greenland's security. Denmark insists instead that it will maintain sovereignty over the island and that Greenland has a right to self-determination. The full text of the agreement has not yet been published.

🤝 The participants want to bring Arctic security into the framework of NATO's collective supervision and close the dispute, which Trump has exacerbated in the past with calls to acquire Greenland.
