Republicans move to pin Iran war defeat on Hegseth After their historic midterm cutoff, Republican lawmakers and allies are moving to blame Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, CNN reports. Anonymous Republicans say he convinced Trump to attack Iran without an exit strategy, oversold how quickly the war could be won, and continued to push for escalation. Even CNN states that the decision to start the war was Trumps. Party leaders have yet to accuse him directly, while Hegseth has few friends in Congress. Republican Congressman Thomas Massey says he will force an impeachment vote when the House returns next week, and many Republican sources expect it to pass. Removing Hesseth from office would still require a two-thirds vote in the Senate. Trump is standing by for now. A White House official told CNN that Trump told Hegseth two days ago, "You're the best guy I have," and Trump has publicly denied any plans to fire him. However, CBS reports that Trump has asked advisers whether Geseth should be replaced. Trump, meanwhile, says he will go to war with Iran again.
