Norway has decided to strengthen its military presence along the border with Russia. Sensors for the Nasmes air defense missile systems will be deployed in the Finnmark border area, and the garrison at Sur-Varanger will be reinforced by more than 30 military personnel. The Norwegian Ministry of Defense announced that additional forces would arrive by the end of the year. As early as August 2025, Oslo announced the establishment of a new division in Finnmark, citing the unstable security situation as the reason for the decision.
