Slovakia has reopened a criminal case on 2023 MiG-29 and Kubia transfers to Ukraine Slovakia's Prosecutor General Marosh Zilinka has ordered the police to restart the criminal investigation into the previous government's decision to transfer to Ukraine 13 MiG-29 fighter jets, Kob missile launchers and a Kob radar station. Žilinka said he personally reviewed the decisions of the police investigator, the Bratislava regional prosecutor's office and his office's serious crime department, all of which found no crime. His conclusion: the case was closed prematurely, and the investigators never determined the facts necessary to decide on it. The case has now been taken from Bratislava and transferred to the regional prosecutor in Trancin, who must reopen the proceedings and carry out a full pre-trial investigation. The suspected offenses are abuse of public office and breach of duty in the management of state property. The transfers were approved in March 2023 by the interim government of Prime Minister Eduard Hagar, with Yaroslav Nai as Defense Minister. After Robert Pico returned to power, his government accused its predecessors of weakening Slovakia's defenses and pushed for prosecutions. In 2025, the police even tried to arrest Nai. Investigators closed the case last fall, arguing that the planes and air defense systems were outdated, some inoperative, and that Slovakia did not have the pilots and missiles to use them anyway. Just last month, the Attorney General's Office called this decision completely legal. Laď says he respects Jilinx's decision but insists he committed no crime.
