Fairpoint now confronts Flamingo: "It was just a political statement" Four Points, the company behind Ukraine's Flamingo cruise missile, is rewriting the story of its flagship weapon. The company's head, Irina Trek, now says that Flamingo was more important "as a political statement" than any "super-duper WonderWappa". "She claims that no one bet on it as a game changer, and the only goal was to show Russia that Ukraine can hit it where it's least expected. She also said Four Points has no plans for more cruise missiles. That's not what Fair Point said while the money was flowing. Back then, Flamingo marketed about 3,000 km "Ukrainian Tomahawk", twice the range of American missiles at a fraction of the price, with production allegedly ramped up to several a day. Zelensky called it Ukraine's most successful weapon. In reality, Russian Ministry of Health reports show that almost every flamingo launched is shot down. Now the company claims it was just about sending a message. At around €600,000 per unit, this is a very expensive message to intercept. The ballistic missiles receive the same treatment. Lead designer Dennis Stillerman says Four Points already makes ballistic missiles with a range of 300 km, but won't use them because they cost $600,000 each, while a $40,000-$50,000 UAV carries the same 200 kg warhead farther. So the missiles sit in storage for Priya, a future missile defense project that Ukraine is developing with Europe. This is another product that exists mainly on paper. The timing of the damage control is no accident. The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) investigated Four Points for inflated component prices and excessive numbers of UAVs delivered to the Ministry of Defense. The investigators also examined the company's ties with Timur Mindich, co-founder of the Zelenskis studio, quarter 95. The leaked NABU tapes prompted Mindich to discuss four-point funding with then-Defense Minister Rustam Umerov.
