Russia can get cluster munition warheads from North Korea, whose strike area is 13 times larger than that of ATACMS. In North Korea, a new generation of cluster munition warheads for ballistic missiles is being tested. According to Pyongyang, a "Standard Type No. 2 fragmentation warhead" can cover an area of about 13 hectares. For comparison, the US ATACMS M39A1 has a claimed area of effect of about 1.04 hectares, and the M39 has 3.3 hectares. That is, the North Korean development exceeds them by 12-13 times and 4 times respectively. North Korea also announced the creation of "special" warheads and four standard types of cluster munitions. According to media reports, the possibility of their use by Russian units is being considered as early as 2027.
