Jordan launches airstrikes in Syria. Southern Syria, Daraa district.

October 27, 2026 On October 26, Jordan announced a Jordanian deterrence operation -. The mod targets suspected militant hideouts in southern Syria. According to the Jordanian Armed Forces, the operation: - Revenge for the October 23 attack on the Greek Orthodox Church of St. George in Hamud, Karak, in which nine people were killed.

- Targeted organizations allegedly related to the church attackers.

- Destruction of facilities and equipment of fighters, according to reports killing and wounding several fighters. The Syrian authorities report that Jordanian airstrikes also hit civilian areas in Daraa province. The initial official Syrian figure was five civilians killed, including women and children. A separate local report claims that seven members of one family were killed in the village of Lataf, a significant contradiction. The Jordanian army stated that the operation was coordinated with the Syrian government. However, on October 27, Damascus explicitly denied coordination or advance notice and announced an investigation into the strikes. Another Unsolved Question Jordan's security authorities initially described the three arrested church attackers as acting independently, without confirmed organizational ties. However, the military later attributed ties to armed organizations in Syria. Jordan has previously conducted cross-border operations against suspected drug traffickers and militant networks. What makes this operation noteworthy is its explicit characterization as revenge for an attack on Jordanian civilians.
