cold case
⠀ 30 years after Topex's murder, the court ends its sentence ⠀.
On September 7, 1996, Tupac Shakur was shot during a drive-by attack in Las Vegas.
⠀.
He died six days later.
⠀.
For decades, one of hip-hop's most famous unsolved murders has gone unconvicted.
⠀.
That has changed now.
⠀.
On October 13, 2026, a Nevada judge sentenced Duane "Cafe Dee" Davis to a cumulative 40 years in prison for his role in the Topex murder.
⠀.
Prosecutors alleged that Davis helped organize the attack and provided the weapon used in the shooting, although he was not accused of personally pulling the trigger.
⠀.
During the sentencing, Davis disputed aspects of the proceedings and indicated that he intended to appeal.
⠀.
The members of the Topex family addressed the court, and described the decades of loss caused by his death.
⠀ Thirty years of unanswered questions, investigations and competing theories have now brought a conviction and sentence.
⠀.
But the legal saga may not be completely over if Davis continues his appeal.
