⠀ Thousands of text messages are now part of Sandra Birkmore's murder trial ⠀.
One of the most watched murder trials in Massachusetts involves examining evidence that goes back years before the victims' deaths.
⠀.
Former police officer Matthew Farwell is on trial, accused of killing 23-year-old Sandra Birchmore in February 2021 and staging her death to look like a suicide.
⠀.
Prosecutors allege that Farwell sexually abused Birchmore after meeting her through a police youth program, with their sexual relationship beginning when she was 15.
⠀.
Now, FBI testimony has brought thousands of recovered messages into the courtroom.
⠀.
The researchers found about 24,000 messages between the two. Some were read aloud to jurors during testimony on October 16 and 19.
⠀.
The trial also stated that DNA testing ruled Farwell as the biological father of the unborn Birchmores child.
⠀.
Farwell pleaded not guilty. His defense claims that Birchmore died by suicide.
⠀.
The jury must weigh the digital evidence, the medical findings and competing explanations for what happened inside her apartment.
