⠀ There is no body. no confession But prosecutors say the evidence tells a different story. ⠀.
The murder trial of Naresh Bhatt is underway in Virginia, almost two years after his wife, Mamta Capel, disappeared.
⠀.
Mamta, a 28-year-old nurse and mother, disappeared in July 2024. Her remains were never found.
⠀.
Prosecutors believe she was killed at the couple's home.
⠀.
During testimony Oct. 19, jurors watched surveillance footage showing Bhatt buying gloves, disinfectant wipes, cleaning spray and air fresheners around the time investigators believe Matta was killed.
⠀.
Other footage showed him discarding items in petrol station bins.
⠀.
Investigators also presented forensic evidence involving suspected blood stains inside the home.
⠀.
But the defense says there is not enough evidence linking Bhatt to his wife's presumed death.
⠀.
He pleaded not guilty.
⠀.
This is one of the central challenges of the trial: can the prosecutors prove that a murder took place and identify who committed it, without recovering the victims' bodies?
