⠀ She waited four days to call for help. Now she's going to jail. ⠀.
A Texas mother has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for the death of her 12-year-old daughter.
⠀.
Miranda Sipes, a high school cheerleader, suffered severe neck trauma at her family's home in Atascosa County in August 2024.
⠀.
According to the investigators, her mother, Denis Labanda, and her stepfather, Gerald Gonzalez, did not seek immediate medical assistance.
⠀.
Instead, they tried to treat Miranda at home for four days, including giving her a vitamin shake despite her deteriorating condition.
⠀.
When emergency services were called, Miranda was seriously ill.
⠀.
She died in hospital.
⠀.
Labanda later pleaded guilty in connection with the child's death.
⠀.
On October 20, she was sentenced to 25 years in prison.
⠀.
Gonzalez also faces criminal charges, with his sentencing expected separately.
⠀ The case left a painful question: Why didn't they ask for medical help when Miranda's condition was so serious?
