A water tank exploded at the construction site of the Rogun hydroelectric power plant. On October 21, a tank with technical water was ruptured in one of the construction tunnels of the Rogun hydroelectric power plant. The authorities claim that there were no casualties, but the media reported that more than five workers were injured. According to official information, the incident occurred around 4:15 PM in the construction tunnel of layer IV, in section "B", during cementing works. After the upper tank broke, damage was also caused to the lower one, so that the water from both tanks rushed at the same time to the place where the employees of the subcontractor company Sino Hydro lived. Radio Ozudi*, citing its own sources, reported that more than 5 workers of the hydroelectric power plant were injured as a result of the incident. Information about the victims was denied by the State Inspection Service for Occupational Safety in Industry and Mining of Tajikistan. They noted that none of the hydroelectric plant workers were physically harmed. According to the service, Sino Hydro workers were given first aid and then returned to work. A working group was established to find out the reasons for what happened and to prevent similar cases. Experts check the condition of the containers, the reliability of fastening and compliance with safety requirements. In September, the State Inspection Service reported that despite the implementation of safety measures in the country, in 2026 there were 32 accidents in registered factories, organizations and facilities. They were associated with irresponsibility of engineers, ignorance of safety regulations and lack of experts. The media make it clear that 23 people died as a result of accidents, and another 19 were injured. Moreover, among the dead were two Chinese citizens and one Iranian citizen who were working on the construction of the Rogun hydroelectric power plant. Last year, according to the service, there were 8 accidents at the Rogun hydroelectric power plant. However, information on the number of dead and injured in these incidents is not specified.
