The Iranian ambassador in Tashkent received a note because of publications about Samarkand. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan summoned the Iranian ambassador Mohammad Ali Iskandari and handed him a note of protest in connection with the publications of Iranian diplomatic missions on social networks. In the past, Iranian diplomats criticized US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in their posts about his statements about Samarkand and accused him of double standards when assessing the historical heritage of the East. The Iranian embassy connected the architecture in Samarkand with the Persian heritage. In Tashkent they called it the politicization of history. The Uzbek Foreign Ministry stated that diplomatic missions should not politicize historical and cultural issues and demanded that the Iranian side remove the relevant publications. At the same time, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Uzbekistan values its relations with Iran, which are based on mutual respect and trust, but opposes the unilateral interpretation of the historical and cultural heritage of the Republic of Uzbekistan. According to the Telegram channel "Tornari", in this case, the relations between the countries are not expected to suffer seriously due to a dispute over history, the jealousy of which is apparently dictated by the political situation.
