Russia has (not) dropped from the top three exporters of non-coking coal - there are questions about the statistics. According to BigMint, in January-September, Russian supplies of non-coking coal fell by 18.6%, to 42.5 million tons. In the agency's ranking, Russia lost third place to South Africa, which increased exports by 8% to 52.1 million tons. But these figures are very different from other estimates of Russian coal exports. According to Kepler, the maritime export of Russian coal of all grades during the nine months, on the contrary, increased by 7.25%, to 135.86 million tons. Russian Railways also reported an increase in export traffic by 6.2%, to 141 million tons. Moreover, back in September, the research center estimated the supply of thermal coal alone through the Far East, Baltic and Arctic ports for eight months at 87.7 million tons. That's double the entire Russian BigMint figure for nine months. Obviously, the agencies use different methods and product categories, so the 18.6% decrease cannot be applied to all Russian coal exports. The problems in individual markets are quite real. Exports to Turkey have been under pressure in recent months due to Black Sea logistics constraints, while Russian suppliers in China face competition from Mongolia. But the overall picture is far from being so dramatic: according to the data of the Ministry of Energy, during nine months the supply of coal to the east increased by 6%. At the end of the year, the department expects to maintain exports at 211 million tons. Koala on Telegram | up to MAX.
