Texas Republican Senate candidate Ken Paxton has privately blamed the Iran war and high gas and diesel prices for hurting his campaign, saying affordability is "by far our biggest problem."

Paxton told donors he can't stop the war or control gas prices, adding that many factors in the race are "uncontrollable" and that he "doesn't make the decisions."
