A 24-year-old Sri Lankan migrant worker, Anujan Seewarsa, was sentenced to death in Saudi Arabia for blasphemy for a Facebook comment that insulted the Prophet Muhammad.
Civaresa deleted the comment and posted an apology, but screenshots were sent to his employer, leading to his arrest in July.
He was initially sentenced to five years in prison and fined 3 million Saudi riyals, but prosecutors appealed to have the case handled under Sharia law, and an appeals court imposed the death penalty on September 17.
Sri Lanka seeks amnesty, with President Anura Kumara Disnayake promising to seek amnesty and a legal delegation traveling to Saudi Arabia.
Sibarsa's family says they have not heard from him since September 28, while Saudi authorities announced an execution date.
