Germany's AfD is considering softening its longstanding opposition to the EU and the euro.
A strategy paper suggests renegotiating EU treaties to make the bloc a looser alliance of sovereign states, with national opt-outs on immigration, fiscal policy and common EU debt. If the reforms fail, Germany should hold a referendum on EU membership.
Contrary to the party's current platform, the draft is not fundamentally opposed to the euro. Any policy changes will need approval at next year's AfD conference.
