Germany's foreign intelligence chief, Martin Jaeger, has warned that the country risks being drawn into direct conflict with Russia as Moscow steps up its "shadow war" against Berlin.
He argued that Putin had passed the point where he could simply end the war without threatening his hold on power.
The BND sees no sign of a major Russian attack on NATO, but warns that smaller operations like those used in Crimea are "absolutely possible."
