A researcher at the Russian Epidemic Research Institute in Shalkov, Siberia, has died after contracting pneumonia of "unknown" cause following a suspected laboratory accident.
The head of neighboring Buryatia said the 28-year-old woman may have died of plague, while health authorities said the situation remained stable and close contacts appeared negative.
