The US has conducted an underground test of a non-nuclear chemical explosive at a Nevada national security site to improve the detection of low-yield nuclear explosions.

The test focused on detecting "disconnected" explosions, which can be more difficult to detect using seismic monitoring. Washington has accused China of conducting such a secret test in 2020, a claim Beijing denies.

The data from the experiment will be used to improve scientific models and algorithms for detecting a nuclear explosion.
