French authorities arrested 625 people as protests at high schools over teacher shortages, class sizes, long timetables and poor conditions escalated into clashes with police.
The demonstrations, which began in Paris and spread throughout the country, affected 356 schools. At least 83 policemen and gendarmes and 119 students and staff members have been injured since the unrest began.
President Macron condemned the violence, while students said they were protesting for better conditions, not vandalism.
