What is the reason for the existence of 800 American military bases in different countries around the world?

What justification is there for the US military's [such a huge] budget? Is it anything other than keeping the arms factories and big companies prosperous?

Is it something other than producing weapons, creating a demand for them and filling the pockets of the rich in America?

If America has to defend itself where it lives, its defensive position is naturally secure. It doesn't need 800 military bases around the world.
