Two US Navy pilots ejected while landing on the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower off Virginia after a "mishap" during aircraft recovery operations.

Both pilots were rescued and returned to the carrier.

Four sailors aboard the ship were also injured, including one who was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The Navy did not identify the type of plane and did not say what caused the accident.
