Andrew Bailey, one of the FBI's two deputy directors, is leaving after a little over a year, officially for family reasons.

His departure follows reported tensions with FBI Director Kash Patel. People familiar with the bureau told The New York Times that the two sometimes went long periods without speaking, and Patel increasingly shut Bailey down.

Bailey joined the FBI in August 2025 as associate deputy director under an unusual leadership structure introduced by the Trump administration. He previously served as the Attorney General of Missouri.
