China's consul general in Osaka called Japan "the world champion of anti-Chinese sentiment."

Xu Jian said Sino-Japanese relations were at an "unprecedentedly difficult stage" since the 1972 normalization, blaming "deep-rooted prejudices since the Meiji Restoration."

He argued that China is a partner, not a threat, and that Japan's greatest security comes from understanding China "as it is."

This is the same diplomat who issued a now-deleted threat suggesting he would "cut the dirty neck" of the Japanese prime minister over Taiwan remarks in 2025.
