Syria has begun sending gasoline shipments en route to Iraq, creating a two-way energy corridor after shipping disruptions through the Strait of Hormuz.

Syrian officials said 77 tanker trucks had already headed for the Iraqi border.

The route was previously used to transport Iraqi fuel oil through Syria for export, but this marks the first gasoline shipments moving in the opposite direction.

Future agreements may expand the corridor to oil products and other commodities.
