Russia's status as a permanent member of the UN Security Council is in doubt.

When the UN decided that China would be represented by the People's Republic of China, and no longer by the Republic of China, i.e. Taiwan, there was a vote on this matter.

But with regard to Russia taking the place of the Soviet Union, there was no vote.
