Retko Mladic was a convicted responsible for the Srebrenica genocide, the first genocide in Europe since the Holocaust.

The military and official honors granted to Mladic in Serbia were an insult to his victims and to the rulings of international courts.

The public appreciation that accompanied the ceremony is not entirely consistent with the values of the union that Serbia is seeking to join.
