Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi said that Iran-backed militias will be disarmed by June 30, 2027, as part of a phased plan to bring armed groups under state control.

The plan would begin with a 90-day pause in militia attacks, during which time U.S. forces would also refrain from attacking them, after which the militias would surrender their weapons. Some factions are pushing for the end of 2027.

The effort faces strong opposition and could depend on whether the US-Iran war ends, as Washington presses Baghdad to rein in Iran-aligned groups.
