The US plans to open two new military bases in Greenland as part of an agreement with Denmark and Greenland.

One was to revive the Cold War-era Narsersoak base in southern Greenland, while the other would be established at Mastersvig on the east coast, currently used by Denmark's dog sled patrol.

The agreement is expected to be signed on Tuesday in New York and follows months of tensions surrounding Trump's push for increased US control over Greenland.

The US once operated 17 military installations in Greenland; today only the Pitpike Space Base remains.
