Axios polled eight former aides and advisers: five said she probably wouldn't run, two put it at 50-50, and only one expected her to run. Some argue that Harris is only doing the "bare minimum" to stay in the conversation rather than actively campaigning.

One former aide described Harris as a "realist and astute political observer," aware that another campaign could focus on her defeat in 2024.

Harris, on the other hand, remains genuinely undecided and continues to campaign for the Democrats and talk to party officials in the run-up to the midterms.
