I heard one of Trump's main advisers on this issue argue that "the market will take care of it, these companies will solve the safety problems because they have every incentive to do so.

If it turns out to be dangerous, people will just sue them, and you know, they're worried about the financial liability."

This is not how we treat airlines, or pharmaceutical companies, or food companies. We now have 150 years of experience in simply letting the market do what it wants when it comes to things that profoundly affect our health and our safety.

Therefore there is no substitute for an effective governmental regulatory structure.
