Paraguay's Senate voted 44-1 to impeach President Santiago Peña following a banking scandal that froze the accounts of nearly 3 million customers.
Peña resigned amid the collapse of Oano Bank, a private lender linked to him that received millions in public funds.
Vice President Pedro Eliana was sworn in as president and pledged to compensate the affected depositors.
