The president of Paraguay, Santiago Peña, resigned today amid a banking crisis created by the collapse of the digital lender ueno, with which he had former business ties.
The collapse left about three million people, almost half the population, unable to access their accounts.
Eight bank managers were arrested, and the head of the central bank resigned.
Faced with impeachment proceedings and increasing protests, he turned away, with Vice President Pedro Eliana next in line to succeed him.
