Gadi Eisenkot is expected to obtain 67 endorsements for Prime Minister, compared to 46 for Benjamin Netanyahu, after the Arab Joint List supported him and the ultra-Orthodox Judaism party refused to endorse any of the candidates.
President Herzog will decide who will receive the mandate to form a government.
Eisenkot's advantage does not guarantee a governing majority, leaving the coalition negotiations in uncertainty.
