An internal presentation released by Trump adviser James Blair warned that the Iran war was severely damaging Republican midterm election prospects.
The presentation showed the Democrats' poll lead expanding during hostilities, narrowing during ceasefire negotiations and rising again after the ceasefire collapsed.
At the end of July, Democrats held a 10-point lead in the congressional ballot.
The presentation warned that Republicans could lose the Senate unless a lasting ceasefire is secured, the Strait of Hormuz is reopened and fuel prices fall.
