Current and former Trump administration insiders say Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth could be fired following Republicans' crushing midterm losses, which are partly blamed on the Iran war.
A White House official said the election results "would have looked very different without the Iran war" and predicted that Trump would hold Gasse to account during the multi-faceted meeting.
A former White House staffer said Gasth was "on the chopping block," while another source doubted he would stay on until the end of the year.
However, Trump continues to defend Hesseth, saying he is doing a "very good job."
